LapTops Welcome

Our computer classes are designed for people who really have no idea what to do with their computer other than turn it on and check their mail. You will not find any one here who thinks that makes you dumb or incompetent. In fact you may be surprised to know that about 90% of people who have home computers, know less than 5% about them. Lets face it, for some they spent a lot of money on a piece of equipment that they are afraid they will break. There is nothing wrong with staying on the side of caution. That is where we come in. We will help you understand some of the more basic things about your computer and the things you can do with it.

There is no way we can teach you every thing there is to know, but when you are done with the four classes we provide you will be able to do so much more and feel a lot more comfortable using your computer. Why would you want to spend all that money and only use 5% of its capabilities? Our computer classes will help you get a lot more out of your system. They will help you move your way around and better organize the things you want to put on it, from pictures to important documents.

Knowing the basics will give you a foot hold in understanding how things work on a computer. They say knowledge is power, well in this case it is the power to run your computer, not to have your computer run you.

Introduction:
We will take a moment to outline the course of the class and let you know what to expect.

Complex Made Simple:
Breaking the computer down to basic parts.
Physical connections - What is what and where does it go.

Do's and Don'ts:
You have spent a lot of time and money on your computer. Now you can get advice from the professionals on how to best care for your Desk top or Laptop computers.

Finding your way around:
It may sound silly, but most of this section focuses on your mouse and how to use the left and right buttons. On a windows operating system, your mouse can do almost every thing for you. The computer is designed to move, rename, change the programs and redesign your entire desktop at the click of your mouse.
You will also be shown how to organize folders, rename them, and even chose your own special icon for each folder. When this class is over, you will be able to access any thing you want on your computer from your desktop. Once you know the basics the rest is a breeze.

Email:
Again, this took some thought, and again I decided that email is something we use almost every day. Here we will learn all of the basic information you would need from your provider to set up and fix your email setting. We will go over only the basics of sending and saving attachments. I will do this using outlook Express and Outlook. There are so many email programs out there I can not cover them all. What I can do is make you feel more comfortable in moving around in your mail program.

Your Browser:
We all use something to go to our favorite web sites. The tool you use is called a browser. We will explore ways to move around and store our sites.

Viruses:
I really thought hard about addressing this topic. But after considering that this is something that effects every one of us on a daily basis, I thought it best to at lease give people an understanding of what they are dealing with. We will go over the different types of viruses and Trojans, and how to protect your self. I can not promise that you will never get a virus after know this stuff. But I can say that you will know better how to protect yourself and the information on your computer.

Review:
It is very hard to remember every thing that is taught in any class. So to help with this, we will go over any thing the class feels needs to be reviewed. You will also be able to keep this hand out to take home and review any time you want. We will also post the entire content of the classes on the web site. www.mpcompclass.com

Questions and Answers:
I would also like to take the time to listen to you and answer things that may not have been covered in the class. I can not know every thing but I do know how to get the answers. Because this class is designed to educate and make you feel more at ease with your computer, I need your impute to better understand your needs. Feel free to speak out and ask questions.
